Warm Packing Information For Cats

warm pack cat

Warm packs are commonly recommended by veterinarians for use on chronic injuries or infected wounds and abscesses. Your veterinarian may recommend warm packing a wound or abscess to help it drain, but only after it has been treated. Warm packing can be a source of relief to muscles and can increase range of motion. It can also be used to treat spasms, soreness, and swelling. Heat can be very calming and increases blood flow to the area of your cat’s body that it is applied to.

Your veterinarian may recommend using different items for the warm packing process. Commonly used items are towels or washcloths that have been run under warm water. These will conform to the area of the injury or the muscle that has been injured. Towels and washcloths can also be sanitized and re-used.

Your veterinarian will normally recommend that you apply warm packs for 5-10 minutes at a time, multiple times a day. Before applying the warm pack, always remember to check and make sure that the temperature is warm, but not hot enough to burn or scald.

Remember, always check with your veterinarian before starting to warm pack.
